Criw Cymraeg
Criw Cymraeg is a committed group of young people who enjoy and want to develop the use of the Welsh language, and have achieved many things, from gaining the Siarter Iaith bronze award to producing multiple assemblies to raise whole school awareness of why the Welsh language and culture should be celebrated.
How Criw Cymraeg began
Criw Cymraeg began as a small group assigned by our teacher in our lessons, it used to be a group of students in Year 7-9 who really enjoyed Welsh lessons. But after the first few meetings we decided to open up the group to everyone. We had an application form for people who wanted to join.
What we do
Criw Cymraeg have regular meetings every Friday lunchtime to discuss how we can improve the use of Welsh in the school, from staff and pupils to displays and presentations around the school. We also make and present assemblies about important Welsh days and events.
What we’ve achieved
We have achieved many things in Criw Cymraeg, but our biggest achievement is the bronze award from the Siarter Iaith. The aim of the Siarter Iaith is to increase the usage of the Welsh language among children and young people in schools.
What are our plans for the future?
We are hoping to soon achieve a Siarter Iaith silver award, which would be a huge accomplishment for us, considering we not long ago got awarded our bronze award. We have wanted to increase the Welsh language use for a while now and by achieving the awards to come, we will be increasing our promotion of the language.
We plan to have more students and teachers speaking Welsh and celebrating our culture!
